Back for its fourth edition, year-end fitness competition GRITGames will boast a new format this year.

Hosted by local boutique gym GRITYARD, the competition is an open call to members of the local fitness community to come together at the end of each year to test themselves through a series of fitness challenges.

In essence, GRITGames is GRITYARD's annual fitness competition that started in 2019 with a unique design providing fitness enthusiasts with a way to test themselves and measure their progress in their fitness journey, regardless of how long they have been on their fitness journey.

In 2022, the organisers are introducing a format where participants will compete for who can do the highest number of repetitions within a specified time per station for the qualifying rounds.

For the finals, finalists will be teamed up with each team completing a series of exercises in the fastest possible time.

Five Core Pillars

Designed around the gym's five core pillars of strength, power, agility, core and endurance, participants for this year's competition can sign up under men's or women's, individual or team categories, with the overall top three winners standing the chance to walk away with a 2 day 1 night stay at an ibis Budget hotel of their choice, with prizes from HOKA and Fresher Meal also thrown into the mix.

The fitness competition has witnessed gradual growth in its participation over its previous three editions despite being limited by the Covid restrictions.

The December 2021 edition saw a total of 55 participants competing over four (4) rounds of AMRAP and EMOM challenges, paired in teams of twos.

8-week Training Program

To make the competition more inclusive, the local gym even extended an 8-week training program for anyone who wishes to train up for the competition, with this not being limited to current GRITYARD members only.

This is a progressive, periodised training focused on the five core pillars mentioned above, which includes two workshops by experts in fitness and wellness and personalised attention from trainers who will monitor each participants training journal to help them in their progress.

While the GRITGAMES that is happening on Sunday, 4 December 2022, originated independently of the Urban Sports and Wellness Week (USWW), it has been included as part of the USWW calendar of events as a partner event, and is recommended for more serious fitness enthusiasts who are looking to test themselves against the best.
