13 November 2021, Singpore - There were smiles all around Palawan beach, Sentosa, as Singapore witnessed the return of its biggest mass participation sports event since April this year - the 2021 MetaSprint Series: Triathlon.

Even the rain could do little to dampen spirits of the participants who signed up for the event, which was given the clearance to go ahead by the authorities albeit amidst tight Safe Management Measures for the safety of participants and organisers alike.

Racers were grouped into bubbles of 25 per wave, with a total of 18 bubbles spread out throughout the day, with the earliest starting at 6:30am, with close to 1,000 participants taking part over two days.

There were some modifications that needed to be made to the event however, with the cycling leg replaced by a static bike station which racers had to complete, before they transitioned into the swimming and running legs of the event.

The triathlon is the third and final event of the Metasprint Series, with Metasport having successfully organised the aquathlon and duathlon events as well earlier this year, before the tightening of measures nationwide following a surge in COVID-19 cases locally led to a major disruption across all sports events since early June.

The Metasprint Series triathlon event is likely to be a marker and benchmark for the return of other mass participation sporting events in Singapore, with Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon also making its return with a physical event as an Event Finale to be held at the Marina Bay Floating Platform on 4-5 December 2021, which feel feature the Ekiden, 5km and 10km races.
