Teenage starlet overcomes India's Ghorpade to land her first title on the 2021 WTT Youth Contender Tour

7 November 2021, Szombathely, Hungary - There was more good news for Singapore table tennis as Zhou Jingyi landed the U17 Girls' Singles title at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender in Szombathely, Hungary.
Zhou, who most recently claimed runners-up in the U19 Girls' Senec leg of the WTT Youth Contender series, followed up on her impressive performances by overcoming India's Yashaswini Deepak Ghorpade 3-1 (11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9) in the final to claim her first title on this tour, and Singapore's fourth after Izaac Quek landed two WTT titles, and Ser Lin Qian won a Girls' U15 title over the past fortnight.

The victory for Zhou was made all the sweeter as Ghorpade had pipped her to the U17 Girls title in Slovakia last week.
Ghorpade had also earlier defeated Singapore's Ser Lin Qian in the semi-finals over straight sets 3-0 to dash hopes of an all Singaporean final.
The result meant that Ser finished joint third in this competition, to add to her runners-up finish in the U15 Girls' Singles compeition of the Senec leg of this competition.

Singapore's youth paddlers began their WTT Youth Star Contender series in Wladyslawowo in Poland (19-23 Oct), followed by Ligano, Italy before the current parallel legs held in Senec, Slovakia (1-7 Nov) and Szombathely, Hungary (1-7 Nov).
Their overseas stint will be culminating at the ITTF World Youth Championships in Portugal (2-8 Dec).
