Overcoming setbacks and managing injury to emerge as series Champion, Eunice reflects on broader lessons her multi-sport journey has taught her

Eunice Tan’s journey in the world of multi-sport racing reached a new pinnacle this March as she successfully completed her first triathlon at the MetaSprint Series Triathlon 2025.
Not only did she finish the grueling event, but she also emerged as the series champion and secured an impressive 2nd place in her age group (AG). It was a moment of validation for the athlete, whose journey began with aquathlons during her university days before progressing to duathlons.

Reflecting on the experience, Eunice described the sense of accomplishment and relief that washed over her as she crossed the finish line. “Really relieving! It felt like I was finally cashing out the time and effort invested into training and then confirming that this is what I want to continue to do.”
Her ascent in the sport has been swift yet steady. Earlier this year, Eunice participated in the MetaSprint Series Duathlon finishing second in her age group, delivering a strong performance that set the stage for her triathlon debut. When asked about how this back-to-back success has shaped her confidence as a multi-sport athlete, she admitted to pre-race jitters but emphasized a mindset of patience.

“Truth be told, I was still a nervous mess at the start line, and I think that will always be the case. Hoping to be more confident over time while staying patient with my progress.”
Despite the triumph, Eunice remains her own toughest critic. The triathlon was, to some extent, an unplanned race, and she candidly shared that she was not entirely satisfied with her performance. “Far from satisfied and still learning to embrace the uncontrollable parts of the sport. My wave was met with strong currents, which left me pretty drained by the end of the swim leg.”
Beyond external factors, the demands of balancing a full-time job with training presented its own set of challenges. “Holding down a full-time job also means I pick and choose what to prioritize. Unfortunately, that means leaving transition practice out and almost wearing my helmet out of T2. Rookie mistake.”

Eunice’s relentless pursuit of growth has also come with setbacks. Currently, she is managing an injury that could impact her ability to race in the Singapore T100 event. When asked about the cause, she reflected on the broader lesson it taught her. “While I could think of many reasons, the lack of mindfulness covers them all. At some point, I was going through the motions without thinking too much about how my body was handling multiple stresses all at once. And like every average person, I caved.”
Through the highs and lows, she acknowledges the importance of her support system. “I’ve got a whole village to thank for getting me on the start list. My cycling friends have been the ones working behind the scenes with me and giving me the confidence to try /tri, haha. A packed schedule also means I don’t train with a fixed squad. I’ve had old and new friends from different backgrounds pace me on the track, and I am thankful for that.”

As for what’s next, Eunice remains optimistic, with her eyes still set on T100. “Still trying to be optimistic with completing T100 with all the training I have banked in … and then some well-deserved rest before looking towards run races.”
Whether she is on the podium or navigating the challenges of multi-sport racing, one thing remains clear: Eunice Tan’s journey is far from over. With unwavering determination and a steadfast community behind her, she is poised to continue breaking boundaries in the world of endurance sports.
