SINGAPORE, 1 September 2026 — The Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) has officially unveiled its 10-member national squad bound for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, spotlighting a dynamic blend of seasoned campaigners and five debutants ready to take on the continent’s elite.
With an average age of just 22, the contingent underscores STTA’s ongoing transition and commitment to deepening its pipeline of high-performance talent on the international stage.

Five paddlers — Josh Chua, Ellsworth Le, Loy Ming Ying, Tan Zhao Yun, and Chloe Lai — will make their maiden appearances at the Asian Games, representing a key developmental milestone for Singapore table tennis.

Youth, Dual-Career Dedication, and Elite Preparation
The upcoming campaign in Japan tests a youthful side that has balanced rigorous international touring with academic commitments. Most of the selected squad are full-time students managing heavy study loads alongside elite training demands.
STTA President Ms Poh Li San, who was recently re-elected for a new term at the association’s Annual General Meeting, highlighted the team's resilience and competitive readiness ahead of the Games.
"We are fielding a young team averaging 22 years old, to lead the charge against more senior and experienced Asian table tennis powerhouses," said Ms Poh. "Five out of ten are debutants at Asian Games. In fact, most of our players are also full-time students, juggling between their heavy academic workload with training and competition. They are also our best players, who have been sharpened and toughened via the highly competitive WTT world circuit."

Ms Poh noted that the team enters the Asian Games on the back of sustained competitive runs across the Asian Team Championships, regional multi-sport events, and the marquee Singapore Smash.
"For our five debutants, this will be a valuable opportunity to compete against the best players in Asia and gain experience that will be important for their continued development," she added. "At the same time, our more experienced players will play an important role in providing leadership and helping the team navigate the challenges of a major Games environment."
Acclimatisation and Final Preparations in Shimada
To ensure peak readiness before competition gets underway in Aichi-Nagoya, the Singapore team will travel to Shimada, Japan, for an intensive centralised training camp aimed at acclimatising to local conditions and fine-tuning tactical execution.
Backed by experienced core anchors Clarence Chew, Koen Pang, Izaac Quek, and Zeng Jian, Singapore’s next generation of paddlers heads to Japan with a focus on testing their mettle against world-class opposition and reinforcing the nation's standing in continental table tennis.
